looking around the region we see that heavy rain we had has moved off the coast up to the north and east but we still have showers in spots so we're seeing them through norristown, malvern you want to watch for that in glassboro he in new jersey, medford lakes, browns mills, some showers around. today is not a terribly wet day but we are going to see lots of clouds and some showers at times. here you can see on satellite6 and action radar had that heavy rain that has moved well to the north but we are having clouds in the wake and we'll have showers here or there. the temperatures certainly mild. 76 degrees right now. we are already above our average high for this date. it's 73 in allentown, 74 in millville and atlantic city airport but with all the clouds in place, temperatures just aren't budging very much today. so, it's kind of going to feel like this all day. 76 right now. by 8:00 a.m., 76, clouds and a shower around. by noon still feeling damp and 78. by 3:00 p.m., clouds, 76. by 6:00 p.m., maybe another lingering shower and 73. so, not terribly wet today but we're tracking some very heavy rain an tropical storm likely to become a hurricane today.

we'll talk more about that coming up in a few minutes matt. >> feeling a little tropical this morning. i think i might be in the mood for aina colada. >> we had a broken down vehicle that's gone now but kind of got us off to a bad start and the road is damp as you can see as we look live at 95. looking live now at the ben franklin parkway over top the vine street expressway, sorry to say it but the inner drivers of the parkway are still blocked this morning which doesn't bode well for the morning commute. big delays around the parkway yesterday and we expect them again this morning and those delays will put extra volume on the westbound side of the vine street expressway with people trying to avoid the parkway. so, already this morning you can see we're backing up westbound on the vine headed toward the schuylkill. by the way, construction on these bridges resumes tonight. we had september off but now that sent is coming to an end

construction crews will be back along the vine street expressway and the bridges over top. rain coming through norristown right now. we also have a tree that came down along elm street at swede street so that's partially blocked off. have a new crash in westampton township burlington county. southbound side of 295 just past mount holly-willingboro but it's off to the side so not impacting speeds a lot. speed restrictions lifted along the new jersey turnpike. we were telling you about them earlier. they're not an issue anymore but we still have that downed pole in cherry hill blocking the ramp from 70 eastbound to 41, kings highway. use the ramp at grove street as an alternate. matt. >> thank you, matt. breaking news, two masked men are on the run after terrorizing a family during an early morning home invasion. "action news" reporter eva pilgrim is live at the scene in the frankford section of the city with what we know. eva. >> reporter: matt, two monday bust into a house here in the frankford section, wake up a man by holding two guns in his face. this morning police are trying

to find those robbers. investigators say two guys in masks broke into this house on the 1300 block of sellers street through the side alley. they tell us that the robbers went as far as to unscrew the motion sensor light before breaking the glass on a door and getting in. once inside, a 51-year-old man telling police he was asleep when the two woke him up, tide his hands behind his back with a electrical cords and gagged him with a button down shirt. in a room next door, his 52-year-old wife and 10-year-old grandson were hiding under a bed during the whole thing. >> only one bedroom where the 51-year-old victim was and living room where the television was appeared to have been ransacked. so, right now we're holding the scene for northeast detectives. there were no injuries. the the 51-year-old male was actually untied by police when police arrived. >> reporter: and just a short time ago we saw those

detectives go into the home. the robbers we are told took about $200, a big screen tv and a play station. police tell us there's actually cameras, a lot of cameras in this area. one in that alley where those robbers went in as well as cameras on the street. if you have any information about who these robbers are or what happened, you're asked to call philadelphia police. we're live here in the frankford section, eva pilgrim, channel6 "action news." >> terrifying. eva, thank you. temple university is advising students to use security escorts in the wake of two attacks near campus. the warning comes after a brutal sexual assault early yesterday morning. a students was walking home from the library when she was attacked on the 1400 block of carlisle. that's just south of campus. police say the man displayed a gun told the student not to scream, then sexually assaulted her. authorities say sexual assaults involving strangers near campus are rare. "action news" talked to young people who live nearby. >> reporter: does it make you change the way you behave?

>> yes, it does but also it freaks me out a bit honestly, you know, because this happened on my very block. >> just hours before the sexual assault police say another woman, a 23-year-old, was walking with friends in the 1500 block of thompson street when she was physically assaulted. the suspects in that case fired three shots before taking off. authorities are reviewing surveillance cameras in both areas. >> opening statements begin today in the criminal trial against the lead contractor in the center city building collapse. griffin campbell faces six counts of third degree murder in the 2013 collapse at 22nd and market streets. prosecutors say he left a tall brick wall unsupported which fell onto the salvation army business next door. six people died, 13 others were trapped. the excavator operator, sean benschop, has already pleaded guilty for his involvement. >> an atlantic county grand jury has cleared three police officers in the deadly shooting of a man last september. police responded to a report of a man firing shots at route 30 and pennsylvania avenue in

atlantic city. the county prosecutor's office has for the first time released surveillance pictures that show 20-year-old city resident shawn brown holding a gun. authorities say he pointed the gun at detectives. he was shot a short time later and pronounced dead at the hospital. >> a u.s. airline is now offering a way to track your luggage even when it is lost, which i guess means it's not lost if you're tracking it. maribel aber has the story in her market watch report live at the nasdaq in times square. good morning, maribel. >> reporter: good morning to you, matt. well, american airlines has added a free service so you can track bags that were checked. the service lets you know exactly where the bag is from the time you leave it at the check in counter to the baggage carousel and you'll be able to track down a lot of bag a lot quicker. simply go to back slash baggage and put in your last in a imto find a bag. talking stocks a mixed trading session on wall street. right now futures pointing to a higher open. report on employment in the private sector due out later today and it usually is an

indicator of the government jobs report which is due out on friday. ralph lauren is stepping down as ceo of the fashion empire he built. lauren has named stephan lars sen the head of old navy to take over. 75-year-old lauren will stay on as executive chairman and chief creative officer. tesla has rolled out its long awaited electric suv. it's a crossover called the model x and the vehicle is tesla's entry into the fast growing crossover market where it will compete with merchandise bmw and lexus. first edition of the model x selling for $132,000. matt and nydia people are talking about that rear upward opening door, falcon door. kind of fancy. >> like the dell lauren is back to the future. >> reporter: it better be fancy for $132,000. >> you made a time machine out of a de dell lorian.

>> the ref rain we had yesterday late last night and in the overnight hours that's out of here but we have some showers. it's impacting your morning commute so i want to go in a little bit closer right now and take a look with double scan. we can see exactly who is getting it and who is not. in willow grove get something rain, norristown on the schuylkill expressway near conshohocken, it's wet. looking at route 30, route three, you can see that right now near media, route 13 as well. as we look in new jersey, kind of wet there as well. we're seeing that through parts of burlington and ocean county and chatsworth and also in the more populated areas near medford along route 70 coming into the city as well as glassboro near rowan university on three he 22 and route 40 near malaga so some wet roads out there for sure. let's go on outside. we want to see what it looks like right now and sky6 using our temple university camera and we're looking at lots of clouds through the region. we're seeing a couple breaks here and there with the clouds but it's a day with lots of clouds and certainly feeling at the very least damp. 76 degrees the current temperature so it's warm out

there. it's so muggy. the dewpoint is in the 70's. so, as soon as you step outside you feel like you're walking out in the tropics and certainly the atmosphere almost saturated here. the winds out of the south-southwest, that's the culprit pulling up that warm and humid, that tropical feel that we have. satellite6 and action radar showing the heavy rain, on its way out of here. clouds, a couple showers here or there. as we look to the south we see a few more showers that will pull into the region but future tracker6 showing it's not going to amount to a whole lot. this is a look at 8:30 in the morning. some showers here or there, mostly just clouds, maybe a couple breaks in the clouds. by 2:00 p.m., mostly dry, a shower here or there. and later tonight, if you have some sports activities you want to watch for a shower. this model showing it mostly in south jersey but i think it could be anywhere. it's not terribly wet today. we're getting really wet, today's not the wet day. that rain already moved through, now it's just a couple showers here or there. so, lots of clouds. today maybe some breaks in the clouds. it's very humid, though, with a few showers here or there today. as you look at the how the temperatures are going, really not changing a whole lot.

we're at 76 now. we'll likely be at 76 at 8:00 a.m., maybe 77 at 11:00 a.m. and holding in the mid to upper 70's. 76 by 2:00 p.m. by 5:00 p.m., 75, mostly cloudy skies through the day today and a shower. but of course all eyes right now on tropical storm joaquin at 70 miles an hour could become a hurricane, is expected to today and we already have hurricane hunters right now flying through joaquin to investigate. and here's what we can expect. going over -- the center of the low going over the bahamas today but more importantly for us let's watch where it's headed right towards our direction. we can see he a hurricane stat one, category one, monday at 2:00 a.m. and what we're looking at, though, is the cone of uncertainty. could be anywhere within here at that point but certainly the models projecting it so close to us and we'll have to watch to see if it makes any turns at that point. i want to show you the spaghetti plot models. that's a good idea to see where the models are leaning. we have some moving in different directions. you can see some even turning it out at this point and yeah, while the consensus is this

general area i think this gives you an idea of some of the uncertain too. it has narrowed a little bit since last night when you were watching, that cone, but something we're watching. here's a look at your exclusive accuweather 7-day. today clouds, few showers here or there. you should be okay for the union game. might not be entirely dry. 78 degrees for you high. much cooler windy tomorrow and 70. friday cool with rain and especially thursday night into friday getting heavy rain at times, 57 degrees for your high. that temperature way down. saturday windy and rainy, feeling the effects of joaquin, 66. watching the coast closely on sunday, breezy with some rain and skater and we'll have to continue to watch to see the development of joaquin on monday, mostly cloudy skies, at least at this point, 70 degrees. tuesday partly sunny skies and 70. so, we're tracking what will be hurricane joaquin coming very near to us and we'll have to wait and watch closely to see what our impacts will be. >> thanks karen. >> thanks karen. >> 6:12 and the pope may have had a secret meeting while here in the u.s. but the

conshohocken curve. it's just normal morning volume combined with the wet conditions. on another portion of 76, the pennsylvania turnpike, there's the new crash in the westbound lanes approaching downingtown. was blocking the left lane but i'm seeing speeds increase. i'm thinking maybe they got it pushed off to the side. in norristown where we're getting wet we still have that downed tree as well. partially blocking the elm street at swede street and our construction projects are getting under way again, now post-pope. there's one here in tinicum township bucks county closing down river road. basically for the rest of the week between walters lane and point pleasant pike. car tea road or tohican hill road some possible alternates. in cherry hill still without the ramp from 70 eastbound to 41, kings highway because of a downed pole. might want to use the ramp at grove street as an alternate. construction starting in just about 45 minutes in mount laurel along church street between ramblewood parkway and church road. that's 7:00 to 4:00 today through friday. route 73 would probably be a

better bet for you and in egg harbor city watch out for high water this morning along route 30, the white horse pike right at route 50 by the dunkin' donuts. lane did blocked in that neck of the woods. matt. >> thank you matt. kentucky clerk kim davis claims she had a secret meeting with pope francis. davis' attorney told the liberty council web site that the two met while he was in washington, d.c. davis was jailed for five days after refusing to issue marriage licenses to same-sex couples. davis' lawyers say the pontiff told her to stay strong. the vatican says it will not confirm nor deny the meeting ever happened. an arizona plan who was sentenced to life in prison will still receive a large monthly check from his wife. deanna gully was married to ronald gully for 28 years. he was convicted for child pornography and sexual misconduct way minor. she served her country for 25 years and now because of a community property law, diagram gully has to give half of her military retirement to her now ex-husband.

>> ♪ >> new this morning a volunteer fire department in northeastern pennsylvania has been fined for holding a boot drive. the fire department in luzerne county held the popular fundraiser over the weekend. now, police cited the firefighters because they were blocking traffic. authorities say the department has been warned in the past that the fundraiser is a safety concern because it is held on the road. other area fire departments say they have stopped raising money this way. >> nsa leaker edward snowden has just found a new mega known twitter and not everyone is happy about it. republican presidential candidate george pataki called on twitter cofounder and ceo jack dorsey to revoke his account. he has hundreds of thousands of followers. snowden is currently living in exile in russia. he faces charges in the u.s. that could land him in prison for up to 30 years. >> 6:27. we're following several breaking stories including a home invasion. >> and last ditch efforts to stop a georgia inmate's execution have failed. we have the overnight update

wynnefield as well a as upper darby. you're seeing it near radnor, across the blue route and how about in horsham and willow grove, that's another area you're seeing the heavy yellow, the areas that are getting hit pretty good n south jersey, some of the communities dealing with it like in berlin along route 30, the white horse pike, along route 47, that's delsea drive near glassboro and barnsboro feeling kind of wet out there as well. although today is not the wet day. we've got a lot of them coming but you can look on satellite6 and action radar and get the idea that heavy rains moving up to the north and east. we've got clouds, we've got some showers or rain at times today but it's not going to be terribly wet. it feels so muggy and 76 degrees already very warm. you don't need a jacket, don't need a sweater today. but here's how the day is going to look. the temps not budging a whole lot. so by 8:00 a.m., kind of the

same story, lots of clouds, some showers or rain at times, 76. by noon, lots of clouds, 78. by 3:00 p.m., maybe a couple of breaks in the clouds, 76. by 6:00 p.m., 73. at any point we can see a shower are a quick downpour but it's not terribly wet today. we are tracking heavy rain on the way and what will likely be a hurricane at our doorstep over the weekend. all of that coming up in the seven-day forecast in just a few minutes, matt. >> all right, so temperatures not budging a whole lot today, karen and the barricades still haven't backupd along the inner drivers of the ben franklin parkway. they're still cleaning up from our big weekend. as a result we expect some big delays this morning just like we saw yesterday morning. around the ben franklin parkway, already we're seeing some extra people taking to the westbound side of the vine street expressway headed toward the schuylkill. again, it's people avoiding those inner drives of the ben franklin parkway which remain shut down. this is the roosevelt boulevard extension southbound come the headlights starting to tap the brakes passing ridge avenue on down towards the schuylkill expressway. that's because of delays on

the schuylkill itself. looking live at 422, we had a rough start to the morning yesterday in those eastbound lanes. this morning, it's just some volume from approaching oaks through this point approaching trooper on into route 23. still have a crash on the westbound pennsylvania turnpike approaching the downingtown interchange. taking out the left lane so now speeds are just in the low 30's passing that accident scene. if you want to use 202, 30 and one to get around it they're clear although wet at this point. in norristown still have that downed tree partially blocking elm street at swede street. downed pole in cherry hill continues to close the ramp from 70 eastbound to route 41. might want to use the ramp to grove street as an alternate. matt. >> thank you, matt. we have two breaking news stories. let's get to the first. police say a woman and children hid under their beds while robbers ransacked their philadelphia home this morning. "action news" reporter eva pilgrim is live on the scene on sellers street in the frankford section. eva. >> reporter: matt, talk about a frightening way to wake up. a frankford man was asleep in

leaving. police tell us that there are actually a lot of cameras here. those cameras in that alleyway and cameras up and down the street. they are looking at that surveillance video at this time. if you have any information the about what happened here overnight, you're asked to call philadelphia police. in the frankford section, eva pilgrim channel6 "action news." >> a 47-year-old death row inmate became the first woman in georgia to be executed in 70 years. >> ordered execution of kelly renee gissendaner was carried out in accordance with state law. >> kelly gissendaner was put to death despite a plea from the woman's three children and pope francis. she was convicted in the 1997 murder of her husband which she convinced her lover to carry out. moments before her execution, gissendaner apologized saying she loved her children and wanted them to know she went out singing "amazing grace." >> happening today, jury deliberations resume in the trial of a former new jersey police officer accused of murder. james stuart is charged in the

death of his friend, david compton. the defense lawyers argue the 2013 shooting was an accident. stuart was off duty at the time. prosecutors say the former deptford officer acted recklessly. >> pennsylvania governor tom wolf has vetoed the republican legislature's short term spending plan. the three month long budget stalemate is leading to big time borrowing for schools. the state's auditor general found that 17 school districts and two intermediate units have borrowed a total of $346 million to make up for the stoppage in state payments. the biggest borrower is the philadelphia school district at $275 million. >> a new report today on the economic impact of the pope's visit finds that for many businesses their prayers were not answered. city controller snapshot survey shows the economic activity of about two dozen restaurants and retailers saw little boone. in fact quite the opposite. retailers say they were down about 80 percent in sales and most restaurants did less than

half of their normal activity for a weekend. they mostly lost money on extra inventory and staff after expecting larger crowds. >> this whole thing was sold as if it was going to be a tremendous boost to the local economy. >> hotels, however, saw a boost over the weekend. that's thanks to the greater philadelphia hotel association's reaction to low projections early on and a change in its marketing strategy. >> turning now to accuweather. we had some heavy rain move through but now we have more coming in, right. >> yeah, we've got showers moving through. now, today is not your big wet day but it's wet nonetheless. let's take a look at storm tracker6 live double scan and you can see overall not a lot of heavy rain but with double scan we can show you who is getting the rain. here in frankford you not only see the area of green but we're seeing some yellow, some of the heavier rainier wynnefield as well, moving just west of philadelphia and upper darby you have some of that rain, out in bryn mawr.

we can go closer to some of the areas right here and just show you who is getting it. i want to go out wider to give you one more overall look and pull into parts of south jersey because they're seeing it as well. so, we're seeing that through medford, and that's a pretty busy area right near marlton as you're driving in to the city right now. in berlin, white horse pike, berlin cross keys road, route 55, that's a busy road so you're dealing with the rain right there as well as near gibbstown and chester, you want to look for that, some rain moving through the region currently through the area. let's go on outside. i want to show you what it looks like right now. we've got lots of clouds. it's rather wet and the trouble is we had all that rain from last night so in some areas you're driving through a lot of ponding and we haven't done that in a long time. it's been awhile. we haven't got 10 a lot of rain so far. 76 degrees currently in philadelphia. it's so warm out there and horribly muggy. the dewpoint is 73. the air is just nearly saturated. winds out of the south-southwest, that's the culprit pulling in kind of that tropical moist air mass.

satellite6 and action radar showing that heavy rain. see how quickly it kind of spins on out of here from last night into the overnight hours. and now in its wake, yeah, we've got some showers here or there. as we look to the south because it's pulling up out of the southwest you can kind of see how there's some more showers that will move through the region. it's not going to rain all day. we're going deal with lots of clouds, some rain at times. this is at 8:30 in the morning, future tracker showing some showers here or there and then we advance this through the day. not a whole lot a shower, a quick period of rain here or there. this is a look at 2:30. it's showing some showers, even a little bit heavier right there near the coast and then at 9 o'clock tonight, still more of the same. lots of clouds, couple of showers so he some real rain days coming. today is not your big rain day but feeling certainly damp out there. 78 for your high. so, we're already in the 70's. 76 and temps just don't go very far because we have lots of clouds and some rain at times. so, at 8:00 a.m., 76, by 11:00 a.m., 77. we'll hit our high early, maybe about noon and then by 2:00 p.m., 76. by 5:00 p.m., 75. a shower or a quick period of

rain at any point. all eyes, though, really on tropical storm joaquin because we expect it to become a hurricane today. in fact, right now hurricane hunters are heading through joaquin to investigate it. 70 miles an hour winds so just a few miles an hour winds off of becoming a hurricane status. the center of it going right over the bahamas this morning but watch more pornly where it's headed and the timing is really changed from this morning. so, this is an update. the late of the updates showing at 2 o'clock in the morning on monday, expecting a cat one hurricane right at our doorstep so that's kind of slowed the storm down a little bit. so, it looks like we might feel the most effects perhaps sunday into monday. something that we're watching closely. and of course that's the cone of uncertainty and as you look at the spaghetti plot models you can kind of see that not everybody in agreement. i mean, some are taking it more to the west, some are taking it more to the south and east so we just really have to keep watching to see exactly what happens but certainly we're going to get big impacts from this either way. here's your exclusive accuweather 7-day.

conditions an truck off to the side but no accidents, just lot of volume here on the schuylkill expressway so far this morning. there is a crash on another chunk of 76. it's the pennsylvania turnpike part. westbound in chester county approaching the downingtown interchange. speeds just in the 30's there. if you want to come down 202 to the 30 bypass to 100 you would miss that delay. at this point the delay isn't terrible but slow going on the westbound pennsylvania turnpike. my buddy says how long on that school closure in schuylkill township. they're saying the end of the year before we get back route 23 west of valley forge national park. this morning also have some downed trees we're watching. one in norristown along elm street at swede. another in upper merion. also watching construction this week in princeton closing mount lucas road. stay on 206 to get around that. in egg harbor city by the

dunkin' donuts high water this morning is still blocking a lane along the white horse pike right at route 50. matt. >> thanks, matt. philadelphia police are looking for a man who got a manicure and then robbed the salon. this is surveillance from rockland nails in the city's logan section on sunday. employees say when it was time to pay the bill, the man pulled out a sawed off shot gun and cleaned out several cash drawers. the robber got away. no one was physically hurt. >> a 15-year-old in chester will be charged for bringing a toy gone school. but some officials are pushing for a tougher punishment. the toy gun caused chester high school to go into lockdown yesterday morning. the teen is back home and will not face a felony. a delaware county probation official determined although the gun is very realistic looking, because it is not an actual firearm, the tenth grader is only be charged way misdemeanor. the delaware county d.a. says it is worth reviewing the current law to see if this is a loophole that can be closed but says for now authorities' hands are tied. >> a young entrepreneur who
